Reading Glasses
Dated at the turn of last century, these are reading glasses that were worn around the neck on a ribbon, akin to a necklace. When the wearer, usually a lady, wished to read an item, by pulling the raised portion of the handle the glasses opened up and become reading glasses that were held by the handle. Once the wearer had finished reading the glasses could be pressed back together and left to hang around the neck.
