The View-Master is a hand held device that when looked through presents the viewer with a 3 D image. The images are in 7 pairs of high quality photos mounted on a reel. The reel is inserted into a slot in the viewer and turned by depressing a lever. The View-Master is still a popular toy. The early models were made of bakelite but the later models were made in plastic. Many reels are of children’s stories, but there are also reels of history, general knowledge and tourist destinations. The model shown here is from the 1950s. Since that time there have been many “upgrades” of the basic concept with audio models and some with internal lighting.
