Golder
Cottage, Historic Place and Museum
Golder Cottage Celebrating Its Place As
Upper Hutt’s Victorian Gem
Golder Cottage was built by John Golder for his new bride Jane Martin
139 years ago. This Victorian gem is still furnished virtually as it was
when John, Jane and their family - which grew to 12 children of their
own plus another two nephews - lived there, including furniture made by
John himself on a treadle lathe. Since opened to the public as a pioneer
colonial homestead 15 years ago, it has evoked many memories of the past
from visitors- and taught hundreds of local children about a New Zealand
before the advent of modern day services such as water supply (the hand
pump is still in the garden) and electricity- no play -stations or
digital devices then! GOLDER COTTAGE is open to the public at 707
Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt, every Saturday in September from
1.30pm-4pm. A small entry fee applies .
Sats 5, 12, 19 & 26 Sept
Open 1.30 - 4pm each Saturday 707 Fergusson Drive, Upper Hutt. A small
entry fee applies.
