Gold buyers Scale
Gold buyers used a variety of potable scales, usually in a wooden of velvet case. Balance scales require equal weights on each side of the fulcrum - one side having a known weight placed on it and the other the gold dust, nuggets. Now days of course digital scales are used. Gold buyers also sought out gold coins as it was not uncommon for the value of the gold in a coin to exceed the coin’s stamped denomination.
