Edward VIII Coronation Medal
BUT the coronation never took place as Edward was never crowned king. His love for American socialite Wallis Simpson
caused him to abdicate his kingship to younger brother Albert, who chose the regnal name George V.
In 1967 it was widely anticipated that there would be a coronation – indeed the date had been set for 12 May that year.
A wide range of memorabilia had been produced, including cups, saucers, books, and plates.
A range of coins and medals were struck – some in gold and silver.
A large number of aluminium medals were produced for school children.
